PHILIPPINE PROVINCIAL GOVT DECIDES TO BAN FACEBOOK FOR EMPLOYEES

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - South Cotabato officials have been banned starting Monday the use of Facebook and other social networking sites among its employees, especially during office hours.

South Cotabato Gov. Arthur Pingoy Jr. said they implemented the ban following reports that a number of local government employees have already been hooked to the popular social networking site and consequently failed to accomplish their assigned tasks.

S. KOREA'S KT CORP, NHN TO JOIN HANDS FOR WI-FI AD VENTURE

SEOUL - South Korea's telecom titan KT Corp. (KSE:030200) and NHN Corp. (KSE:035420), the operator of South Korea's most-visited web search engine, will set up a joint venture next month to offer mobile ads for wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) users, the companies said Tuesday.

KT and NHN Business Platform Corp., NHN's affiliate providing ad sales and information technology infrastructure, will each invest 3 billion won (US$2.76 million) in the joint venture, which will target local merchants, they said in a statement.

COMPUWARE APPOINTS NEERAJ DOTEL AS INDIA MD

NEW DELHI - Nasdaq-listed IT firm Compuware Monday announced the appointment of Neeraj Dotel as the managing director of its India operations.

Dotel will be responsible for building the Compuware India team and incubating its business in the fast-growing Indian market, Compuware said in a statement.

HANOI - The implementation of a series of projects in telecommunications production in the first months of 2011 showed that Vietnam's high-tech sector continued to draw foreign investors.

By the end of March, Wintek Vietnam Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Taiwan's Wintek Corp. was officially granted a licence to build a US$250 million plant to produce touch screens for iPhone and iPad in Quang Chau economic zone in the northern province of Bac Giang.

MUMBAI - Auto major Mercedes-Benz India has launched a mobile-optimised website, which would cater to the rapidly evolving set of tech-savvy customers.

The website (m.mercedes-benz.co.in) can be readily accessed through multiple mobile devices, including smart phones, Androids and other feature phones capable of Internet browsing, the Indian arm of the German car manufacturer said.

CAUCASUS UNIVERSITY OPENS LABORATORY ON LTE TECHNOLOGY

BAKU - A laboratory provided with 4G (LTE) mobile technology has been opened at the Caucasus University.

The laboratory created on Azercell Telecom`s initiative is equipped with base stations supporting 2G (GSM), 3G (WCDMA /UMTS) and 4G (LTE) technologies.
