SA: Man charged with aggravated assault of school girl

ADELAIDE, Aug 1 AAP - A 23-year-old man has been arrested over the aggravated assault
of a primary school girl after an incident initially described as an attempted abduction.

Police said the man was arrested today and charged over the incident at the Salisbury
Heights Primary School, in Adelaide's northern suburbs, yesterday afternoon.

Police yesterday said the girl managed to fight off the man who allegedly twice tried
to grab her and pull her away.

"The young girl struggled and managed to break free," a police spokesman said.

Today, police said the man was allegedly in the school grounds for a domestic-related purpose.

A spokesman said the girl was not known to the man but the attack was not random.

"Police would like to reassure the community the incident is not a random attack,"

the spokesman said.

The arrested man was granted police bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court
at a later date.

His bail conditions included a provision that he not attend the Salisbury Heights Primary School.
