Qld: Recent rain fuels mosquito borne disease
Recent rain has caused an big increase in the number of Queenslanders suffering a debilitating
mosquito borne disease.
Queensland Health has recorded 429 cases of Ross River virus this year .. compared
to 97 for the same time last year.
Ross River virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito .. and can cause pain
and swelling of the wrists .. knuckles .. knees and other joints lasting up to six weeks.
Queensland Health says the majority of cases were in the state's south-east and Wide
Bay -Burnett areas.
