Qld: Asian tourists drowns on the Gold Coast

BRISBANE, Feb 17 AAP - A 20-year-old man drowned on a Gold Coast beach today despite
extensive attempts at resuscitation.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics had been called to the corner of
Cavill Avenue and The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise, at 7.45am (AEST) to find witnesses
already administering CPR to the man.

Paramedics took over CPR while transporting the man, believed to be an Asian tourist,
to the Gold Coast Hospital.

He was officially declared dead a short time later.

Police said the man had not been swimming between the flags, which were yet to be erected
for the day.
