Celcom customers to enjoy faster speeds, improved communication services in Klang Valley

Celcom selects Nokia Siemens Networks to expand and modernize its 3G network in the central region

Celcom Axiata Berhad, the country's first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider, has awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks to boost its network as part of its ongoing network expansion and upgrade in Klang Valley. Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide HSPA+ at up to 42Mbps to cater to the explosive smartphone growth in Malaysia. The upgrade will enable Celcom customers to benefit from faster data download speeds and better coverage in metropolitan areas.

"Klang Valley is one of Celcom's most important markets as it has the highest density of mobile broadband and smartphone users. Our key priority is to ensure that our customers get the best experience be it in voice, video, music, email, internet browsing or multi-media messaging," said Dato Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad. "As Celcom aims to grow its current smartphone user base to 30% of total customers by the end of 2011, we are pleased to award this crucial network infrastructure upgrade contract to Nokia Siemens Networks. The network upgrade with Nokia Siemens Networks' technology will benefit our customers with faster data speeds and enhanced services."

Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver LTE-ready radio access equipment Flexi Multiradio Base Stations to deliver HSPA+ services and upgrade its network management system, NetAct for Celcom's current and future needs.
