Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN says the government's counter-terrorism bill could belaw by Christmas, despite Labor concerns over its coercive powers.
The ASIO Terrorism Bill is part of the government's response to the September 11 terroristattacks on the United States.
Concerns have been raised about ASIO's proposed powers to detain people for long periods, deny them legal help for 48 hours, jail them for refusing to give information, and holdchildren as young as 14.
Mr CREAN says Labor wants access to lawyers and opposes the seven-day indefinite detentionregime for non-suspects.
