QLD: Premier extends sympathy to family of dead former MP
Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE has extended his sympathy to the family of former state
One Nation MP CHARLES RAPPOLT, who has died in New Zealand.
Mr RAPPOLT'S body was found on Monday morning hanging in the garage of the home he shared
with his partner in Auckland, in New Zealand.
Mr BEATTIE says Mr RAPPOLT was a knockabout Australian who had unfortunately been chewed up
and spat out by the political process.
Mr RAPPOLT resigned from the Queensland Parliament last year five months after being
elected, amid domestic violence allegations and controversy over his partner's role as his
electorate secretary.
A week later he was in Cairns Hospital after an apparent suicide attempt.
He later demanded $295,000 compensation, claiming his time as an MP had left him a
psychotic depressive.
