NSW: Brothers among recipients of bravery awards

Two brothers who tried to pull a boy from a blazing garden shed will be among nine
people to receive bravery awards in Sydney today.

New South Wales Fire Brigades Commissioner IAN MAC DOUGALL will present the commendations
for saving lives during a graduation ceremony of 20 firefighters.

Brothers MICHAEL and ROBERT CLIFFORD of Woy Woy on the NSW central coast, with MICHAEL
CONNAUGHTON of Umina, will be commended for trying to save a child trapped in a burning
garden shed on January 19 this year.

Despite their efforts, the young boy died in the fire.

Greenacre father RAYMOND JOSEPH helped save his son's life during a house fire on May
15 last year.

And three Newtown firefighters - WILLIAM MACLEAN, SCOTT NEEDHAM and GARRICK PARKES
- will be awarded commendations for their efforts at a unit fire in Camperdown last year.

The other recipients are off-duty ambulance officer ALEXANDER LAW, and passing motorist
SCOTT STEVENS who helped save a passenger from a burning car in Mona Vale last year.
